We offer a number of gold plating services and these include; 9-24k gold, 9-18k white gold, rose gold, rose gold tint and green gold. Of course, all shades in-between can be produced for that perfect colour match!
What is gold plating? Gold plating is simply the method of depositing a layer of gold onto a conductive surface. The surface is normally a conductive metal base allowing a current to be passed through it to form a complete circuit. This allows the gold particles in the electrolyte solution to bond with the item being gold plated, the item being electroplated is also referred to as the cathode.
The classification for the thickness of gold plating that we use is as follows:
- Gold flash is equal to 0.175 microns. This is often used as a base coat onto nickel prior to electroplating in silver to provide a good bond for the silver plating.
- The minimum thickness for gold plating is equal to 0.5 microns. This is used mainly for a decorative finish on items with minimal handling.
- Heavy gold plate is classed as 2.5+ microns. The normal thickness we apply would be between 2.5 – 6 microns dependent upon the item and its intended use. This provides a long lasting finish on high wear items such as; watches, buckles, auto parts and jewellery.
Our specially developed gold plating solutions are engineered to be extremely hard wearing and durable. A gold plating of just 5 microns is often more than adequate for the long term durability of high wear items. The general rule is 1 year of wear per micron meaning 5 microns in thickness should last 5+ years if cared for properly.
